That was tough – getting the long list (already hotly debated) down to just 10 shortlistees was near impossible – several rounds of discussion and negotiations were needed but we finally agreed on these 10 fine openings.
We hope those who didn’t make it are not too disappointed – you are all incredibly talented, let me assure you and subjectivity does play a part in these situations, so it may be that while we didn’t pick your entry, some of us still loved it and so will many others.
As to those picked, the quality is superb and each displayed different appealing elements in their openings but every one intrigued and hooked (several of) us and made us want to read beyond the 50 words. Everyone on the short list had to have their opening liked by all (or all but one) of us to make it, so really well done.

Okay, so, for those of you that have made it to the next stage, the short list has been passed on to the expert judges, Chloe Seager, Catherine Johnson, Sarah Lewis and Jo Gatford. They will choose the TOP THREE and then the FINALISTS will be announced ASAP at a date to be announced!
