Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard @
For those who loved X-Men or the Hunger Games, this is the novel series for you.
A world divided by blood – red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
Of course, it does change and a series of inciting incidents result in an ever amplifying cascade of events that result in a permanent-engaged state of ultra-fast reading to get to the end.
Throughout the character of Mare is endearing, loyal, brave and dislikable, too, but it’s the development of some of the other main characters which brought the story to life for me.
And that ending – oooooof! I won’t include any spoilers, but yes, just yes!
The famous recurring line – “Anyone can betray anyone” is a mantra for the entire book, and the sequel, Glass Sword, which continues to build upon the world introduced in Red Queen. The finale in the trilogy is due out in February, and I for one, will be pre-ordering.
